Its a bird, Its a plane, Its a hero called - Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, the pilot of US Airways Flight 1549
by all accounts, Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger, the pilot of US Airways Flight 1549 is a hero. He successfully crash landed his jetliner, without any major injuries or fatalities, in the Hudson River on 15th January 2009.
An experienced pilot saved lives of people including his crew who boarded US Airways F1549 and what else a pilot can do when they virtually out of any other options at 3,000 feet when he intentionally and calmly steered his crippled US Airways jetliner, fully loaded with passengers, toward the Hudson River, in a freezing cold water.
Here is what has been written across the news media and blogs:
- A former Air Force fighter pilot with 40 years of flying experience -- including gliders -- Sullenberger's Airbus A320 apparently struck a flock of birds moments after takeoff from New York's LaGuardia Airport, knocking out both engines.
- The jet is designed to fly with one engine out. But a dual bird strike that kills both powerplants, if confirmed by federal transportation investigators, is virtually unheard of in U.S. aviation.
- Flight 1549 was running about 30 minutes late when it lifted off from LaGuardia shortly before 3:30 p.m. EST (2030 GMT) bound for Charlotte, North Carolina, with 150 passengers and five crew, the FAA said.
- Within minutes, word came back to New York controllers from the cockpit that a bird strike had knocked out both of the A320 CMF-56 series engines.
- According to details pieced together from air traffic controllers and aviation officials with knowledge of the harrowing moments above New York and New Jersey, it seemed as if the entire incident of several minutes passed in a flash, demanding that Sullenberger employ every bit of his years of experience.
His particular jet, which is 10 years old, is designed to fly with one engine out. But a bird strike that kills both powerplants, if confirmed by federal transportation investigators, is virtually in U.S. aviation. His skill and bravery which led to the safety of everyone on board, is the stuff that legends - and certainly Hollywood movies - are made of!
Read through about the incident from this NY Times post and I like the quote on last line: This one settled in with the nose high.
This a pure example of how experience speaks that besides being a pilot, Captain Sullenberger is also the founder of Safety Reliability Methods. His firm describes itself as providing ‘technical expertise and strategic vision and direction to improve safety and reliability in a variety of high risk industries.
So next time when you board a plane make sure to listen & see for pre-takeoff video or exercise by the crew, you never know what is round the corner!

Here comes the elections, so as the politicians promises!
Elections promises are part of an 'election platform', but platforms also contain vague ideals and generalities as well as specific promises. They are an essential element in getting people to vote for a candidate. For example, a promise such as to cut taxes or to introduce new social programs may appeal to voters.
A great number of election promises are broken. Many regard this as a severe issue that disaffects people from the entire political process, increasing apathy and lowering turnout during the voting. Election promises have been broken for as long as elections have been held and this is likely to continue. There are strong pressures on politicians to make promises which they cannot keep. A party that does not make exaggerated promises might appear bland, unambitious, and uninteresting to voters compared to the one that does. Sometimes this can give the exaggerating party an advantage over the truthful one.
Until now in my life time I have never seen a 'true politician' who kept their promise that was made during pre-election time and without any realisation they would simply twist their own words.
Still it is a great mystery that none of the political party in Parliamentary(Centre) and Assembly (state-elected) elections aroused fears about its political viability, but not about its economy. Talk about recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai and series of clustered-bomb blasts across the country (important cities that are very much into business prospects). More on that talk on Economic issues, in contrast, stirred little alarm. They played practically no role in the elections, despite the current slump in India's economy and the meltdown in East Asia. Instead, most observers assumed that continued economic reforms, even at a slow pace, would keep India moving forward on the higher GDP growth path of six to seven percent attained in recent years.
There has been a great shift of awareness for the public and people about every aspect of their life, media has playing a major part of it and every means of media has a greater responsibility to convey the real 'truth' message to the people and not by simply running few test runs about a certain political party victory in upcoming elections.
Hope every citizen of India with voting-right will think twice about peace & prosperity for them and for country before casting their vote. It may be a piece of paper or pressing a button, but it is a very powerful arsenal for every 'voting rights citizen' and think twice before using your power!
May god bless people of INDIA and save from bad omen!

SATYAM Computers cooked books - Where is Corporate Governance? What are the Auditors and Board of Directors doing since last 3 years?
A direct question in everyone's mind that the Auditors and Board of Directors including the COO & CFO of SATYAM must have known this particular fiasco, all of them must be punished and it is absolute rubbish that Mr.Raju taking all the responsibility as his own. This is a sheer betreyal of confidence from 52,000 employees including their own family members.
Here is the interesting reveleation about Satyam Corporate Governance ??? from one of its ex-employee which is a good one to read. On top of that I came to know that Ramlinga Raju has got a fanmail website on his name - http://www.ramalingaraju.com/message.html whereby the fans are still adding up messages in support of him!
Edit: 08th January 2008, as you may see the link to Ramlinga Raju Fanmail site has been taken down and it was working until last night.

On the other side of this issue the Andhra Pradesh Government has been playing games again by simply passing out statements in press by Chief Minister, Dr Rajashekar Reddy and below is the extract of his letter to Prime Minister of India & SEBI :
While I have no doubt in my mind that Law will take its own course, our major and immediate concern is about the fate of 53,000 employees of the company. As you may be aware, majority of the clients / customers of the company are Fortune 500 companies, who will be averse to do business with companies having fraudulent managements and they will have every right to cancel the existing contracts, which will jeopardize the interests of the employees and innocent shareholders.
I, therefore, urge you to kindly constitute a management team with immediate effect comprising of personalities of globally known integrity and competence viz., Sri Azim Premji, Sri Narayana Murthy and Sri Ramadorai to manage affairs of the company to restore the confidence of the global customers in its business continuity, so that the interests of the employees and other stakeholders are protected till an alternative credible management is put in place for the company.
Yours sincerely,
(Dr.Y.S.RAJASEKHARA REDDY)
Dr. Manmohan Singh,
Prime Minister of India,
New Delhi.

The above letter was also sent to:
Sri P.Chidambaram, Union Home Minister, Sri Montek Singh Ahluwalia,

SATYAM Computers - A tale of 'a'satyam (A big lie)
It is a big shock and spine-chilling fact that resignation of Mr. Ramalinga Raju, Founder and Chairman of SATYAM computers for every Indian IT company in the world.
Until 06th of January 2009 SATYAM Computers has a special (top) place in Indian IT Industry that can be termed as a financial fraud as "mind-boggling"! No doubt that and we must credit Mr.Raju that has worked hard over 2 decades to become the posterboy of India's Information Technology industry and less than two weeks to turn into the rogue who personifies all that is defective with the country's outsourcing industry due to the "the gap in the balance sheet has arisen purely on account of inflated profits" during several years which is termed as cooking account books .
Though I see in the Media that there will not be any problems for rest of Indian IT companies, it is a clear indication that Indian corporate governance standards have been put at stake here, the role of the auditors have also come under serious question. Whenever such a fraud happens in the Corporate world every other Enterprise in the international community will now take a harder look at Indian companies and think twice about placing their money there, after all Indian IT force is the backbone for many Multi-National Corporations and Gaints.
This is a 'hammer in head' for the IT market in this credit-crunch & Economic recession time that India's outsourcing boom has given way to slowing profit growth, as the credit crisis has hurt US and European firms.Almost half of this was generated by US companies, which are now showing signs of cutting budgets in the face of stricter lending conditions and a slowdown in consumer spending.
In next 2 days we will see where this will lead and plan of action by other Corporates that are depending on Indian IT force.

What the heck these politicians are playing?
The tragic terror attack on Mumbai has shaken not only the people of city but also every Indian, every human being I would say not limited to a nation. It is not the first time that terror attacks have taken place in this city, I still remember the aftermath of Mumbai carnage of 1992-93 which is directed to the financial centre sending shockwaves to Indian Financial position and the investigation of this blast showed that the terrorist took advantage of the gross injustices done to Muslim minority and lured a small section of them to execute their dastardly designs.
What is puzzling this time around is that the attack came at a time when the investigation being done by Maharashtra ATS into Malegaon blast was leading to certain impeccable findings of the involvement of Hindutva elements. This was resulting in a hostile reaction to the ATS chief who was doing a thorough professional job. He was being abused and criticized by the people like Advani and Modi for being deshdrohi (anti national). Pune Police had also received a death threat to him from an anonymous caller just couple of days ahead of the terror attack.
To take further advantage being by the Union minister for minorities Mr. A.R. Antuley. His statement that “superficially they (the terrorists) had no reason to kill Karkare. Whether he (Karkare) was a victim of terrorism or terrorism plus something, I do not know,” I have no doubt (you agree) implying that this is a sheer negligence on a responsible Government minister to pass on such a pathetic statement. Simply but playing the blame-game here from the UPA and especially by the Hindu right wing and a section of media.
While many felt that the idea was to ensure that Truth comes out, the others felt that he should not only be sacked from his post but a case of treason be launched against him. To settle the things cool down since Maharashtra Government is setting up a probe into the allegations of negligence of the top level Police officers, that committee can very well probe the death of Hemant Karkare as well. But to be frank all this does not appear to be quite convincing. Hemant Karkare, if at all that was the objective, could have been eliminated without such a massive barbaric operation.
WAR is not a SOLUTION!!!
It is also very important that peace in the subcontinent be maintained at any cost. If we think of war with Pakistan as some people like Simi Agarwal and others are saying, it would really playing in the hands of terrorists and their organizations. They are out to provoke war between two countries. Also, Pakistan has entered democratic era after a long spell of military rule, we should not do anything to push people of Pakistan again into dark era of military rule. Perhaps that could be one of the objectives of this barbaric attack, if Lashkar-e-Tayyiba is involved. Military is getting increasingly pushed away from political arena and this may not go down well with hawkish military officers of Pakistan.
Taking the remarks by such a responsible Government minister's remark into point Pakistan is simply laughing at the stock of political games played by such a pathetic leaders of our nation. In this context all those trying to strive for truth are also being labeled with choicest abuses. Any raising of question about the investigation, the narration of incidents comes to be branded as being pro Pakistan and anti India. One is not arguing against India or for Pakistan, one is trying to see that the real picture of things will strengthen India.
We should also do everything possible to strengthen democratic and peace loving forces in Pakistan and it is peace loving people of Pakistan who can help us fight terrorism than mere monstrous laws demanded by rightwing forces in our own country. We have every doubt that how far Pakistan will be supporting India on this task, as they change their own version every minute by mintue since this tragic event is happened, time should tell!
